Made from raffia palm leafs and vegetable dye, Kuba cloth was orginally made to create bedding, blankets, clothing, and wall, window and door hangings in the Democratic Republic of Congo (formerly called Zaire). As textiles became more sophisticated, they were also used as currency for trading. The same weaving method is used today and remain an important part of the African lifestyle.
With its rich textures and geometric patterns of flat-weave emroidery, kuba cloth has become very popular in the Western world.
